198 Films

There has been a flurry of articles in the British press following the European premiere of Forgotten Man, produced by 198 Films’s Anna Jancsó.

The film is the first feature by Canadian director Arran Shearing, and paints the portrait of social and class division in contemporary London through the tale of a homeless actor, who falls for a wealthy girl.

Jerry Hall, who has a part in the film, was accompanied to the East End Film Festival Premiere by her husband Rupert Murdoch, to the shock and surprise of the festival and the filmmakers. Murdoch was greeted with what the Guardian’s Marina Hyde calls a “good old-fashioned East End welcome”.

Stella Corradi’s Little Soldier, produced by Anna Jancsó as part of an all-female production team, has been launched today to audiences under the Vimeo Staff Pick label. The film was picked up by the video sharing and hosting service at New York’s Athena Film Festival, where Little Soldier played earlier this year.

198 Films’s Anna Jancsó has been invited to take part in the 2017 edition of Berlinale Talents. According to the programme, ‘the international selection committee chose the 250 Talents out of 2,711 applicants from 127 nations based on their prior achievements and the impact and relevance of their artistic work in their home countries. The Talents are usually five to ten years into their careers and have extensive professional expertise, considerable festival exposure and, often times, award-winning films under their belts.’

198 Films founder Anna Jancsó is among 10 European producers selected for the 2016 Producers Lab Toronto. The event takes place during TIFF between September 6-9.

Now in its seventh year, the initiative for emerging producers is run by European Film Promotion in collaboration with Ontario Media Development Corporation and Toronto International Film Festival.

Anna will be at the event presenting the Librecine-198 Films family film project Island Blue.

Island Blue, an ambitious family film project by Hungary’s Librecine Bt and the UK’s 198 Films has secured MEDIA development funding from the EU’s Culture & Audiovisual programme, Creative Europe.

The film project is based on a children’s classic written by Magda Szabó, author of ‘The Door’ and ‘Iza’s Ballad’. The development is led by producers Krisztina Endrényi and Anna Jancsó.

Last night Little Soldier received Film London’s 2015 London Calling Jury Award Special Mention at the British Film Institute, where emerging talent from all over the capital was on showcase. 21 short films were screened for the prestigious London Calling and London Calling Plus Awards.
The Jury said: “This film has been carefully-rendered, with strong direction and superb acting throughout. It was refreshing to see a short which captured its council estate setting’s sense of community, rather than viewing it through a negative lens.”
